MEET YOUR FARMER
Becca French
I’m a biologist turned farmer who is passionate about growing practices that promote biodiversity and maintain soil structure. I’ve always been attracted to the idea of producing my own food, and during the COVID pandemic I decided to go all in. I thought that becoming self-sufficient would be beneficial in a future where supply chains were disrupted and community became more vital than ever. My mission since founding Up Beet Farm has not only been growing nutritious food for the community with minimal outside inputs (i.e., fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides), but also to leave the soil in better shape than when I started. Some of the practices I employ are low tillage, deep aeration with a broadfork, and adding locally-sourced compost. I’m always learning and can’t promise perfection, but I can promise you delicious produce!
